There are times when what we classify as bad situations really aren't that bad, but before that realization ever comes, we overanalyze, overthink, and overexpose ourselves to a myriad of negative emotions simply because we see only on the surface. And this, my dear audience, includes my own self. I am guilty of pessimism, cynicism, and so many other NEGATIVE isms simply because, at the onset of an unfavorable event, I am in shock that it is actually happening to me and I see nothing else but the possible bleak effect that the situation might have on me.
But after tongue blazing, fuming, and diving into moodiness, I revamp and say, "It is what it is," and come again.
In the midst of cooling off or even after some time, I ask myself:
Was it really as bad as I made it appear?
And most importantly, God reminds me
"I got you",
But before the epiphany and the solution, how exactly does one bear in mind that before pressing the alert button either inside their minds or for the world to see, how does one cope with disappointments and being irrational?
How do we quell the urge to be anxious, angry, and annoyed?- And all the other As that align with the situation?
Because, truth be told, as humans, we can't help but feel, share, and react, and at times we do them all so impulsively. To readjust we might think to ourselves:
We need more than one plan
Planning is not bad, but guess what? My friends plans fail.
We have to put our trust in God. Ask him to take control and to lead us, and we need to remember that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28), so on either side, plan a or plan z, God can see us through.
There are many plans in a man’s heart.
Nevertheless, the Lord’s counsel—that will stand. Proverbs 19;21 NKJV
We should accept or, more so, hone our situation, whatever it may be; this is a move that isn't practiced enough.
To overcome the potholes on our roads to wherever we are going, we need to acknowledge that the journey will have setbacks. Acceptance of our realities creates peace of mind and openness—not open to failure but open to the truth that life and whatever journey we take will have its share of trials.
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Phillipians 4:11 KJV
Be optimistic, one day the bad you are currently encountering will be no more. You will rejoice about the conquest you made due to perservering.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37 KJV
Use it as character building.
Nowadays, whenever life sneaks up on me and beats me up severely, I might cry yes, but I always say it's because I am chosen.
The scars will be badges, the tears will transform into laughter, and most importantly, the weariness will help increase tolerance and resilience.
And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: Revelation 2;26 KJV
You aren't the only one—someone like you—maybe you haven't met them and maybe you never will, but somewhere there was one like you who went through the SAME struggles YOU had and THEY conquered to tell someone like YOU that THEY can overcome as well.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV
You can help someone.
Someone needs to hear how you stitched yourself up, how you escaped trauma, how you smiled when it rained. Someone needs you to survive so they can survive. It may seem burdensome, but once you overcome it, it will be a gift—the story you have to share to help someone achieve victory in their defeat the way you did.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5;16 KJV
So this is not to tell anyone to not cry, to not express themselves, or to avoid their problems. Nor am I telling anyone how to handle their problems; all I am saying is that when we look back at the possible whys as to what is happening, we can pull through and not loathe our situations. We can instead try to carry on and live on.
Scripture
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
1 Peter 5:10 KJV
