Welcome to the Gem Mind!

 

My name is Sonika, and although I love my name, as it too has a spectacular meaning: "golden." I add Gem to my social media handles and my creative writing ones as well. So you may see me as Nika Gem or the Gem Mind, and as my home page says, "Gem" is simply me calling myself rare. Not to boost my ego, but because of everything I've seen, my perspectives are unique, and my approach is, in my opinion, one-of-a-kind. I have yet to be convinced that I am not a gem molded by pressure—pressure that specifically intensified when I got saved. There was no smooth sailing for me, but instead of crying defeat, I affirmed that God had given me a gem of a mind. I merely write to escape and to hope that one day an escapee like myself sees my posts and feels not alone, is strengthened, and has some growth or a positive reassessment of their faith.

To be honest, you might think I'm just a writer, but I consider myself a creative; the designs and concepts are all my own. Writing is my first love, and I mean writing in all forms, but I know I have a world of skills and talents I've yet to discover. Directing, designing, sketching, photography, and fashion—the artsy, although somewhat stereotypical because everyone claims they can do them—well, I like them all and I want to fully dive into them. I think expression is crucial and sets us apart. Not only that, but combined with a mindset to serve the true and coming King, Jesus, who wouldn't want to see the balance?

And that's what this is all about: me finding balance as a fleshy, emotional person with a sinful ancestry while serving God, whom I only truly discovered six years ago. This is the poetic, somewhat devotional-styled, cynical at times, but spiritually present, documented truth of my journey.

When I'm not writing, I read every piece of paper I can find. News, history, the strange things of the sea—I get lost in it; I also watch anime, which may be questionable but I promise I keep it clean; I don't care for typical TV, but I binge watch foreign dramas from time to time (C-dramas, K-dramas, Turkish dramas, etc). I love to learn new things, I love music, I think I am a fashionista, and I like subtle adventures like long drives to faraway places and every single body of water, though I cannot swim. I consider myself witty and expressive. Join me as I find myself some more.
